Antiviral Testing of Surfaces & Textiles

Antiviral Testing

How we can help

ISO21702:2019

International standard to measure the antiviral activity of non-porous materials. Our lab is ISO17025 accredited to run this test.

ISO18184:2019

Virucidal activity on surfaces & TEXTILES

Test the Antiviral Activity of Your Product Against Our Viruses

We can test the antiviral activity of surfaces (plastics and other non-porous surfaces) or textile products against viruses following ISO 21702 and ISO 18184. These test data can then be used to report the specific antiviral activity of a product (labelled as having been tested following ISO 21702 or ISO 18184).

VRS is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by Perry Johnson Laboratory Accreditation Inc. for testing the virucidal activity of textile materials (ISO 21702) and non-porous surfaces (ISO 18184).

ISO21702 & ISO18184

How our virucidal efficacy tests are done.

We can quantify the antiviral activity of non-porous surfaces and textile products (e.g., woven and knitted fabrics, fibres, and yarns).

Viral suspensions are incubated on the media of interest according to ISO 21702 and ISO 18184 procedures. Tests are run in triplicate, and control conditions are included. The deposited viruses are then collected, and their infectivity tested using either the plaque assay or TCID50 method.

This test is available for the following viruses:

Influenza A

Human coronavirus NL63 (HCoV-NL63)

Human coronavirus 229E (HCoV-229E)

SARS-CoV-2

Murine norovirus

Suspension test

How we test the antiviral activity of liquids.

The suspension test is used to measure the antiviral activity of liquid formulations, such as disinfectants, soaps, and cleaning sprays. The test measures the percentage of virus inactivated by the liquid formulation relative to an inert control solution.

This test is available for the following viruses:

Influenza A

Human coronavirus NL63 (HCoV-NL63)

Human coronavirus 229E (HCoV-229E)

SARS-CoV-2

Murine norovirus
