Industrial Antiviral Testing Services
Choose your test
Our range of industrial testing services.
ISO 21702
Measures the virucidal activity of non-porous materials (e.g., plastics, metals, glass). ISOs are recognised internationally and we are accredited (ISO 17025) to run this test.
ISO 18184
Measures the virucidal activity of textiles (e.g., yarns and fabrics). ISOs are recognised internationally and we are accredited (ISO 17025) to run this test.
Suspension test
Our in-house suspension test to measure the virucidal activity of a liquid formulation (e.g., disinfectants, hand sanitisers, soaps, nasal sprays) against viruses in a liquid suspension. Best for R&D purposes.
DIN EN 14476
A suspension test that follows the European standard (DIN EN 14476) to test the virucidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics against viruses in a liquid suspension.
ASTM E1052
A suspension test that follows the American standard (ASTM E1052) to test the virucidal activity of a liquid formulation (e.g., disinfectants, hand sanitisers, soaps, nasal sprays) against viruses in a liquid suspension.
ASTM E1053
An antiviral test following the American Standard ASTM E1053, used to test how well a disinfectant kills a virus dried on a non-porous surface.
M40-A2
Tests the performance (sample preservation) of microbiological transport devices. For example, is a virus preserved in a liquid-based swab transport system?
Cytotoxicity Assay
Tests whether a product causes toxicity to cells (cytotoxicity). We measure two indicators of cell damage, reduced intracellular metabolism (MTT test) and membrane damage (neutral red uptake, NRU).
Bespoke Antiviral Testing
Some projects need something out of the ordinary. So we also offer a range of bespoke services, ranging from assay optimization to full project management.
Virucidal activity on surfaces & TEXTILES
Test the Antiviral Activity of Your Product Against Our Viruses
We can test the antiviral activity of surfaces (plastics and other non-porous surfaces) or textile products against viruses following ISO 21702 and ISO 18184. These test data can then be used to report the specific antiviral activity of a product (labelled as having been tested following ISO 21702 or ISO 18184).
VRS is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by Perry Johnson Laboratory Accreditation Inc. for testing the virucidal activity of textile materials (ISO 21702) and non-porous surfaces (ISO 18184).
Viruses we test against
You can test your product against one or multiple viruses.
We can perform virucidal industrial testing against the following viruses
Enveloped viruses
SARS-CoV-2 (multiple variants)
Human coronaviruses (NL63, 229E, OC43)
Influenza (H1N1 and H3N2)
Vaccinia virus
Non-enveloped viruses
Murine norovirus
Adenovirus
Rhinovirus
To claim that a product has broad antiviral properties, it should be antiviral against at least one enveloped virus and one non-enveloped virus.
