Antiviral Resistance Passaging
Resistance Passaging
Antiviral Resistance Passaging Services
Resistance passaging studies are performed to investigate the potential of viruses to develop resistance to antiviral compounds and to assess how viral susceptibility to treatment may change over time.
Resistance passaging can provide valuable information about the resistance profile of a compound and help identify potential limitations of antiviral candidates during drug development.
Our Approach
How our antiviral resistance passaging is done.
Serial passaging: Viruses are cultured over successive passages in the presence of an antiviral compound to investigate their potential to develop resistance. Changes in viral susceptibility are monitored throughout the study to assess whether resistance emerges over time.
Monitoring antiviral susceptibility: The susceptibility of the virus to the test compound can be evaluated at the end or at different stages of the experiment. Antiviral activity can be assessed using dose-response assays to determine whether the EC50 value changes compared with the original virus.
Resistance characterisation: Viruses showing reduced susceptibility to the antiviral compound can be further investigated to confirm the development of resistance. Viral sequencing is performed to identify mutations potentially associated with the observed resistance phenotype. Growth studies can be perform to assess viral replication and fitness compared to wild type.
Experimental controls: Appropriate controls, including viruses passaged in the absence of the test compound, are included to distinguish changes associated with antiviral exposure from those occurring during routine viral propagation.
Flexible study design: The experimental approach can be adapted depending on the virus, antiviral compound, and objectives of the study. The number of passages and the methods used to assess antiviral susceptibility may vary according to the experimental requirements.
Resistance passaging studies are available for selected viruses. Please contact us to discuss your specific requirements.
