Test the Virucidal Activity of Your Liquid Formulation
ASTM E1052 is the standard practice used to measure how effectively a chemical product inactivates a virus when the two are suspended together in liquid.
During an ASTM E1052 test, a known quantity of virus is mixed directly with your product and held for a defined contact time. The reaction is then stopped, and the infectious virus that survives is quantified. Virucidal activity is reported as a log10 reduction in infectious titre relative to a virus control.

Our Approach
To perform an ASTM E1052 test, we prepare a defined concentration of infectious virus and combine it with the test solution under controlled experimental conditions.
The virus and test product are allowed to remain in contact for the required period. At the end of this contact time, the virucidal activity of the test product is stopped using a validated neutralisation procedure, where an appropriate neutraliser is available, or by dilution.
The treated virus suspension is then serially diluted and added to susceptible cultured host cells. The viral titre recovered from the treated sample is compared with the corresponding control. This allows the reduction in infectious virus to be calculated and expressed as a log10 reduction in viral infectivity.
Appropriate controls are included to demonstrate that the assay has performed correctly and that factors such as product cytotoxicity or residual product activity do not interfere with the measurement of infectious virus.
